As the year draws to a close, it is time again to share with you my 2023 highlights and I look forward to hearing how your 2023 went :-) This year was all about opening up a new chapter in Mauritius 1Q 2023 was spent settling down into my new life of aquafit, golf, learning basic Creole and both visiting friends and receiving visits from friends and family. Quite by chance, I met Lina at a dinner hosted by mutual friends and fate then stepped in and a brand new relationship began :-) 2Q 2023 back to the UK to visit family and friends :-) First on the agenda a couple of games of golf and another hole-in-one came at Cotswold Hills Golf Course on the 9th hole, 139 yard par 3, with a 7 iron on 9 June 2023 (My 4th hole-in-one since March 2017). Then flew off to Norway, Svalbard islands and to the capital Longyearbyen, from there, picked up a cruise ship to try and search for the polar bears up around the 80th parallel north latitude. Sadly we only managed to see a family of 3 bears walking along an ice float too far away from the cruise ship to capture a good photo :-( Back to the UK for more quality time with my nephews, great neices and great nephews which was fantastic. Back to Mauritius and straight to the doctor to deal with an horrendous cough that had gotten steadily worse during my travels. 3Q 2023 was spent visiting chest, heart and back specialists, having numerous blood tests, MRI scans, CAT scans, Xrays and various consultations with Rheumatologists, Endocrinologists and Haematologists all trying to work out some sort of diagnosis for my medical condition which was deteriorating rapidly :-( Ended the 3rd Q with no golf, no aquafit and 3 conditions with no cure = Rheumatoid Arthritis (an autoimmune condition that causes the immune system to attack healthy cells), Disc bulging in my neck and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) a blood disorder that can lead to blood clots. 4Q 2023 a huge welcome to another great neice born on 2nd November (the daughter of my youngest nephew) named Connie Iris, so wonderful to get an addition to the family :-) The beginning of December saw an improvement in my health with many abnormalities in the blood readings returning to normal and therefore the planned trip to Perth, Australia with Lina to meet her family and friends went ahead assisted with injections to prevent complications with the flights. It was an absolute joy to meet Lina's circle of family and friends who were extremely welcoming and very accepting of our new relationship :-) Plans for 2024: I have a trip planned to visit family and friends in the UK in June with Lina and have also booked a safari in Kenya in September to show Lina the great migration spectacle and I will take the opportunity to say my final farewell to the wildlife and my birth country - Kenya. I trust life went as well as it could for you all in 2023 and I wish you a healthy, happy and wealthy 2024.
