A move to Australia

2002 - 2003

Career advancements continued in 2002, I qualified as a Workplace Assessor and Workplace Trainer (One-to-One or Small Groups) through the Institute of TAFE, Australia. I moved my “home base” to Brisbane, Australia and explored quite a bit of Australia by hiring a campervan.

Other visits that year included Finland, Dominican Republic, Malta.

I also did an Atlantic cruise on a ship called the Marco Polo.

The cruise embarked in South Africa, calling at Namibia, St Helena, Brazil, Uruguay and disembarking in Argentina.

2003

In 2003 I was awarded my Master’s degree through the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK in MSc ELT Management (English Language Teaching). My eldest nephew reached an important milestone, his 18th birthday, so back to the UK to join the celebrations at the London Eye.

I also returned to the Marco Polo for an Antarctica cruise this time embarking and disembarking in Ushuaia in Argentina with an excursion along the Chilean fjords.

This cruise had some extra excitement, on the way back from Antarctica for reasons only known to the captain, he managed to hit rocks near to half-moon island. Fortunately, the ship had a double hull so we really were not in much danger although the alarming call to “muster” was enough to terrify the life out of most of the passengers!

We limped back to Ushuaia for repairs to the ship and were given free excursions to the surrounding areas. I also moved my “home base” again, this time to France. My travelling that year took me to Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Fiji to swim with Manta Rays, Seychelles and back to the USA to experience lobster fishing first hand in Maine. This was also the year I caught Cerebral Malaria, another brush with death, luckily the expertise of the local doctors and medics saved me on this occasion.
